My paintings capture moments where the familiar becomes precarious, they express vulnerability and the passage of time. By drawing attention on the ephemeral they evoke hope and resilience

I’m inspired by the changeability of nature and by its untamable qualities. I’ve focused on trees, walls or dwellings and the omnipresence of cataclysm to express feeling of isolation and abandonment. I want to convey the sense of vulnerability we have facing uncontrollable forces in a dreamlike vision, anesthetizing to make the subject more disturbing and create contradictory feelings. This is a way for me to reconcile with the natural instinct of fear which is there to make us more resilient.

In this series I attempt to create ethereal places where what is familiar is deteriorating and about to collapse. This work is about the precariousness of life as well as the enticing calls to embark on new journeys and pursue our need to connect, to heal and eventually to grow. I’ve used palette knives, molding paste, texture medium to create energy and turmoil, sometimes layering material to heighten the dynamic but also delicate brushes to create details.

The importance given to canine companionship has motivated my exploration of the Guardian’s theme. This series is often a satiric metaphor on a society which ignores the basic nature of this animal. I’ve chosen to present the dichotomy of the dog as an aggressor or as a defensor. In our western society dogs are often cast in the role of children and presumed to be playful, obedient yet protective, their fidelity is legendary but in other society the dog can be the symbol of the outcast or of death. The development of those opposite archetypes became a catalyst to express tension and energy on the canvas.
